Report: Baltic states want Gazprombank switched off from SWIFT
MOSCOW, Apr 21 (PRIME) -- Poland and the Baltic states have suggested switching off Russia’s Gazprombank from the international interbank settlement system SWIFT or “at least” think about freezing of the bank’s assets under a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, EuObserver news portal reported on Friday citing the states’ joint proposal.
"Given… the Kremlin's use of the bank to advance political interests, the de-SWIFTing of Gazprombank is of priority and symbolic importance," the newspaper reported.
The states also suggest sanctions against imports of Russian gas, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), and aluminum to Europe, as well as closure of the E.U.’s ports for all vessels transporting cargoes for Russia-registered companies.
